California Lawmakers Get Pay Raise

Quote
The highest paid state lawmakers in the country just got another pay raise. The California Citizens Compensation Commission approved pay increases for all California lawmakers and constitutional officers today, raising the base salary for state legislators to $116,208 a year. According to the commission, the national average for state lawmakers is $70,448.

During its annual meeting in Sacramento, the commission voted to award a 2.75 percent increase to all assembly members, senators and constitutional officers, except the attorney general and superintendent of public instruction. Commission members gave those positions a 5 percent increase because they felt those two offices were compensated below market rates when compared to similar jobs in California.

Yet another raise. Great.

Interesting part of the second paragraph above:
"compared to similar jobs in California."

Can anyone explain to me what jobs in California that are similar to the Attorney General and Superintendent of Public Instruction? Is there a second government running in California that I'm not aware of?
