CHP Recommends Criminal Charge for Sen. Migden
State Senator Carole Migden, D-San Francisco, may face a criminal charge in connection with last month's wild freeway ride that ended with an injury collision.
Monday the California Highway Patrol found the San Francisco lawmaker was "at fault" for two auto accidents and recommended she be charged with reckless driving in one of the incidents.
The CHP says Migden was operating her Toyota SUV at "unsafe speed for conditions" May 18 when she rear-ended a stopped car along Highway 12.
Investigators also determined Migden was at fault in a previous collision that day, when she sideswiped a guard rail along Interstate 80 in Vallejo.
CHP spokesman Les Bishop said investigators found that "inattention due to distraction by cell phone usage was a contributing factor in both collisions."
