Governor to Release His Revised Budget

Quote
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is scheduled to release a revised spending plan for the state today.

The plan from the governor is expected to hold down spending and reiterate calls for cuts to welfare and other social services.

The release of the revised budget kicks off a perennial sprint to the June 15 deadline for the Legislature to approve the budget for the fiscal year that begins in July. Schwarzenegger is supposed to sign the budget bill into law by June 30.

While the Democratic-controlled Legislature has so far balked at the proposed general-fund cuts to welfare and other programs, lawmakers and the governor both say they are hopeful an on-time budget can be signed this year.

Last year the governor signed the budget 12 hours before the start of the beginning of the fiscal year, giving the state its first on-time budget in six years.

Well at least they are looking at it and trying to do something that could be beneficial to the tax payers.
