Local Pair Scores Big on YouTube Awards
The first-ever YouTube awards were handed out Monday and among the winners are two teens from Carmichael, known as Smosh.
Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox won the award for Best Comedy Video. The winning clip "Stranded" was among the winners of popular videos on YouTube including OKGo and "Ask a Ninja."
The two usually write down their ideas on small notepads and then turn them into short video clips using a video camera and a computer.
"We just wanted to show our friends and laugh and they showed it to other people and it kind of spread that way," said Padilla.
"Stranded" is not Smosh’s first successful online production. Padilla and Hecox soared to cyber-celebrity last year with a video clip that was a parody of Pokemon. In August 2006 the video was the second-most watched clip on YouTube.
When News10 spoke to the pair in 2006 they were enjoying their success. Padilla said "We would love to keep on going with it, because we really have fun with it."
