A motorist passing by a burning Sacramento County home Wednesday appears to have saved the lives of those inside the residence, fire officials said.

Officials said the garage of a Ellerslee Drive home was on fire when the driver stopped and knocked on the front door of the residence. Two people inside the home got out safely.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews soon arrived and called a second alarm.

Flames spread quickly into the home and on to another house nearby.

One woman suffered some burns when she ran into the burning garage to get her car out.

Firefighters said they do not recommend going into a burning building.

Investigators were searching Wednesday for the cause of the fire.
