Traffic Backup Results After Man Kills Self In Sacramento County
A large traffic backup resulted after a man being sought by sheriff's deputies killed himself Tuesday morning in a vehicle along Sunrise Boulevard just south of Madison Avenue, officials said.
Authorities said deputies were attempting to serve a warrant on a 62-year-old Carmichael resident who was an alleged child molester.
The man got in his car and drove away. The detectives did not know that the suspect had a handgun in the car when he drove away. He drove on Sunrise Boulevard and then shot himself as deputies followed.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, the allegations were reported on Sunday. The suspect's victims were belived to be his stepdaughters.
On Monday evening, detectives found a safe haven for the victims and their mother at an undisclosed location after the molestation claims were substantiated.
As of noon on Tuesday, a tarp had been placed over the car, which sat on Sunrise Boulevard. The man's name was not immediately released.
Northbound traffic was blocked, but southbound lanes were open.
