CSUS Faculty Vote No Confidence in Prez
Sacramento State University faculty disapprove of the job being done by campus president Alexander Gonzalez by an overwhelming margin, according to the results of a vote released Friday.
The non-binding vote showed 77 percent of the nearly 900 eligible faculty members cast ballots of disapproval for Gonzalez's actions.
The vote was taken as a referendum on the performance of the embattled president, who has come under fire for academic cuts, increased class sizes and a looming school deficit.
Michael Fitzgerald, chair of the CSUS Faculty Senate chair Michael Fitzgerald said the vote send a message that Gonzalez should pay close
attention to the academic budget.
The California State University board, not the faculty, has the power to hire and fire Gonzalez. CSU officials have stated their support for the president.
