Circulation Manager For Davis Paper Killed
Sacramento police are investigating an apparent carjacking over the weekend that left the circulation manager of a Davis newspaper dead.
Jessie Reiter, 36, was shot about 5 a.m. Saturday in south Sacramento after a night out with friends.
Police said he was in the passenger seat of a Jeep Cherokee that was waived to the side of the road by someone in another vehicle. When the Jeep stopped, a man approached the driver and demanded money and the keys, police said.
Officers found Reiter lying on the sidewalk, bleeding from a gunshot wound, according to a department press release. It was the city's 13th homicide of the year.
Reiter was the circulation manager for the Davis Enterprise, where he had worked since 2005.
Publisher Burt McNaughton said the staff was saddened by Reiter's death.
"Everyone here respected his energetic and efficient management style," McNaughton said. "He was well-liked personally and never considered any job beneath him."
