Area SWAT Teams Storm Building During Exercise
Sacramento police facilitated a multi-agency training exercise Wednesday on top of a Capitol Mall high-rise, complete with smoke and several chopper drops on the roof.
The Sacramento police, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, Sacramento Fire Department, California Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation teamed up to simulate a hostage situation.
The script of the mock hostage situation was to find the suspects and rescue hostages without injury.
Police said the various agencies worked on teamwork and communication.
"We're going to need to do things a little bit differently. When we have as many teams, as we have working on this one," Sacramento Police Chief Albert Najera said. "We can have people talking on top of each other."
A mobile command unit analyzed the effectiveness of their communications.
"We have to be prepared for the worst, and if you're not prepared for that, situations can go bad," sheriff's deputy Lou Fatur said.
