Getting around Downtown Sacramento may soon get a little easier, but drivers will first have to endure some delays.

The city is converting some one way streets into two way streets.

Starting today, lanes will be closed on 19th street between R and X streets.

Three lanes will narrow to two, and bike lanes will appear on either side of the street.

Linda Tucker who works for the Department of Transporation says the two way streets will reduce the volume of traffic as well as some of the speeds. Pedestrians will also have an easier time crossing the street.

The city council also approved changes to six other downtown streets.
