When a baby girl had several episodes of vomiting blood, her mother became suspicious. Friday, the mother's boyfriend was arrested for allegedly feeding the 9-month-old sleeping pills.

Investigators believe Luke Davis, 20, mixed sleeping pills in the child's food, said Elk Grove Police Department spokesman Christopher Trim. The baby's mother told police she took her child to the doctor three times in March when the baby girl began vomiting blood. The mother became suspicious of Davis and contacted police May 10.

Trim said the Davis and the mother lived together.

The baby girl's health is improving, according to Trim.

Davis was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and deliberately mixing a harmful substance with food or drink. He is in the Sacramento County Jail.
