Elk Grove Mall Gets Approval To Begin Construction

Quote
They'll soon be able to 'shop till they drop' in Elk Grove.

After a battle over blueprints for a new mall, the Elk Grove City Council gave the plan the thumbs up last night.

The open air mall will be 1.1 million square feet with 120 retailers, eight restaurants, and a 16 screen cinema. The mall would all be anchored by Macy's, JC Penny's, Target and a Barnes and Noble.

While a lot of people are excited, some are against the new project, mainly because of the additional traffic it could create.

The new mall is expected to open in October 2008 at Grant Line Rd and Highway 99.

Elk Grove Promenade will be a 1.1 million-square-foot regional open-air center, located on 107-acres, off the new Grant Line Road interchange and Highway 99. The center will feature a Macy’s, a 16-screen Cinemark Theatre and Barnes & Noble.

Elk Grove Promenade’s plans also include:
• Six national, sit-down restaurants with outdoor seating
• A 20,000-square-foot food pavilion offering seven cuisines and seating for 800 people, complete with Wi-Fi internet
• More than 5,000 parking spaces
• 450,000 square feet of specialty retail stores
• Bike paths and 25 bike lockers with showers and changing facilities
• Water features incorporated throughout the property
• A performance stage for concerts that spills into one of Elk Grove Promenade’s three parks
• Outdoor fireplaces
• Thousands of trees such as weeping willows and palm trees
• Three family restrooms with nurseries and lounge areas
• Children’s play areas in the food pavilion and parks

Lets hope they do a lot more to fight the squalor creeping into this city.  Kinda sad to think about a malls impact on the immediate area around it. Look at Arden or Roseville.

This town keeps is worse and worse.
