A busy commute route in Elk Grove remained shut down early Thursday morning as crews worked to cap an underground natural gas leak.

Pacific Gas & Electric was fixing the problem, which led the closure of Grant Line Road between East Stockton Boulevard and Survey Road. The road was not expected to open until about 11 a.m.

Police and Caltrans officials were meanwhile diverting traffic around the area and the Grant Line Road exit from Highway 99 was closed.
