A woman was shot and a man suffered head injuries in a confrontation at an Elk Grove home Wednesday, according to police.

There was an altercation in the doorway of a home on the 9200 block of Gem Crest Way just before noon, according to Elk Grove police spokesman Chris Trim.

A woman, 19, was shot several times in the torso. She and the injured man, 18, wre alert and conscious while being transported to the hospital, Trim said. The woman underwent surgery at UC Davis Medical Center and both are expected to recover. Their names were not released.

Trim said officers are looking for two men seen leaving the neighborhood in a dark blue, 2-door GMC Yukon, model year late 1990s to early 2000s.

Investigators believe the shooting was not random, Trim said.

As a precaution, nearby Ellen Feickert and James A. McKee elementary schools were put on lockdown for a short time.
