Friday November 17th at Fools Foundation - a special night!
First up, a screening of "Timothy Leary's Last Trip" - a film by A.J. Catoline and O.B. Babbs (son of Merry Pranksters member Ken Babbs). This hour-long biopic has a focus on the Merry Pranksters and the later years of Timothy Leary's life, including his reunion with Ken Kesey prior to Leary's death. Features previously unreleased Grateful Dead music, too. This is scheduled to run with the short film, "LSD A Go Go" - sort of a pop culture look at the US government's early experiments with LSD. Following this, Peter Walker (who programmed Timothy Leary's music in the 60's when he would lecture) is scheduled to play. Opening for Walker will be Jack Rose.
For this night, the film itself will be the usual $5.00. The Peter Walker show is $10.00. Or, to attend both, it is only $12.00! We will need to briefly clear the venue between the film screening and the live performance, however.
Note: Original Merry Pranksters member Ken Babbs is currently scheduled to be interviewed about the film on Christine Craft's talk show on KSAC 1240, Friday afternoon between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. You oughtta listen in!
We should also have another entry from the Sacramento Bee's Show Us Your Shorts short filmmaking contest, too!
Friday November 17 - films at 7 PM. Jack Rose and Peter Walker following (probably around 8:30). Presented by Shiny Object and Fools Foundation. Location: Fools Foundation - 1025 19th St, Sacto. 19th & K - Off of K between 19th and 20th. Next to the back end of Old Spaghetti Factory. Digital projection on to a big screen. Seating is on folding chairs - feel free to bring a pillow or cushion or whatever.
We are doing regular weekly film screenings with Fools Foundation on Fridays at 7 PM - and most are $5 (unless otherwise noted in advance), and will have filmmakers out from time to time.
We also now have gift certificates available in any denomination! You can pick 'em up at Fools Foundation!
Coming up on 11/19 - Sunday afternoon - at 3 PM: a special FREE screening of the new documentary "Before the Music Dies" with Dave Matthews, Eric Clapton, Erykah Badu, Branford Marsalis, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt and many others. Examines how record label and radio station ownership consolidation, along with the emphasis of video over music, has limited choice within the popular music world for the music fan.
And coming up Friday 11/24: the 1975 indie film classic "A Boy and His Dog"
