A proposal to close the Folsom Point Recreation Area at Folsom Lake is drawing a lot of criticism from residents and city leaders.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is considering the closure as part of its plans to construct a new auxiliary spillway at Folsom Dam. Under the plan, Folsom Point would be used as a staging area for construction equipment as well as a thoroughfare for trucks to move 1.5 million cubic yards of dirt to strengthen nearby Morman Island Dam.
