Sailboats Capsize On Folsom Lake During Race
Forty-knot winds caused several sailboats to capsize Sunday during a race on Folsom lake.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary came to the rescue. This was all during the "Camellia Cup Sailboat Regatta." The Coast Guard Auxiliary says it's not unusual for sailboats to tip over during a race. But the problems quickly multiplied in today's strong winds.
"We had to rescue four different people from the water. We had several tows. Several sailboats suffered casualties, broken rudders, broken masts, torn sails," says Ed Sweeney with the U.S. Coast Guard.
The race committee ended the event early because of the conditions. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
