Man Involved In Granite Bay Kidnapping Attempt

Quote
A kidnapping attempt in Granite Bay on Tuesday has prompted the Placer County Sheriff’s Department to ask for the public's help in finding the man allegedly responsible.

Officials said a man approached a 15-year-old boy as the youth left a friend's home on Eureka Road. The man asked the boy for money, but the boy told him he didn't have any.

The man then pushed the boy into a gray four-door sedan and attempted to back out of the driveway. Although the passenger door's interior panel was broken, the boy was able to crank the window down to reach the outside handle and open the door.

The man then drove southbound on Auburn Folsom Road, causing traffic to momentarily stop. He has not been seen since.

The sheriff's department said described the man as white, heavyset and 6 feet 1 inch tall. He also had a graying beard and a ruddy complexion. He was wearing brown sunglasses, a plaid, button-down shirt and a fishing hat. He was barefoot and smelled of alcohol. His vehicle was described as being in poor condition.

It is possible that he may have stopped by other homes or businesses in the Granite Bay area asking for money.

Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Bill Summers at 530-889-7843.

Granite Bay Kidnapping Attempt was False

Quote
A 15-year-old Granite Bay boy has recanted a kidnapping attempt in order to protect a friend's father, says the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

The teen told sheriff's deputies he was approached on Eureka Road and pushed into a car by an unknown man asking for money Tuesday afternoon. The 15-year-old later admitted that the man is a friend's father and he was trying to protect him because he was intoxicated, said Detective Bill Summers.

Summers said after the boy confessed, he went home and fought with parents and punched holes in the walls of his home. The teen was arrested for assaulting his mother. He was treated for a broken thumb and later released to family members, said Summers.

The teen likely still faces a charge of filing a false police report, Summers added.
