What needs to be done to ensure our children get the best possible education

When we think of education, most think that you have no say in what you children learn or how they progress. But think again, the importance to making sure that you child is getting the best possible education relies on many factors, such as the school itself, location, where the funding is being used and what resources we as parents have for influencing what is going on in the school.
There are underlying problems in public school systems that need to be addressed, and this is not just that there may be a lack of qualified teachers in certain areas, or that teachers are not being paid enough. Which seems to be the answer for everything. I do not think that all teachers are there for the students, like it used to be. Teachers are taking less time in preparing students or giving examples of what is expected of the students.
I am not sure about the training being provided to teachers, however I noticed that there is less education required to get your teaching degree. Can this be a part of the problem, or is it that students are overworked and losing interest.
If you have any comments or ideas on what could be changed to ensure a better quality education for the children of today, please leave your comments, concerns or questions here and we can work together as parents to help our children be all they can be.
