Natomas Residents Face Flood Insurance Mandate

Quote
Sacramento's fast-growing Natomas is not as flood safe as residents thought, according to the government, and Thursday many of those residents learned the cost of living in the area is on the rise.

According to government reports, levees around the area are not as safe as they should be, and there's more reason for those who don't have flood insurance to get it.

$300 a year is a small price to pay for the peace of mind, although I'm not sure what an insurance company would help you with in the case of a flood.  It seems like a lot of the Katrina victims were not compensated much for their damages and I'll bet the insurance companies would find someway not to pay for a Natomas flood as well.

I remember actually looking at homes in Natomas about 5 or 6 years ago.  They were very cheap at around $150,000 to $200,000 for a decent sized home.  However, I never heard anything of a flood plain.  I'm sure you're not the only one who wasn't aware.  By the way, I'm curious what homes are going for there now.  Is it more like $400,000- $500,000?

Below is a link to a site w/ a heat map showing housing prices in the area. I can only assume that it's accurate Wink

http://www.trulia.com/home_prices/California/Sacramento-heat_map/

It shows high $200k, low $300k on up to around $500k and higher...
