A 2-year-old boy died Sunday after he was found underwater in a Natomas backyard swimming pool, Sacramento Fire Department officials said.

It's believed Alexander Gonzalez, who would have turned 3 next month, was underwater in the backyard pool at the home on Primo Way Sunday afternoon for anywhere from five to 30 minutes when he was spotted, Sacramento City Fire Department Capt. Chad Augustin said.

Family members performed CPR on the child, who was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Augustin said family members told emergency crews that several people were around the above-ground pool, but no one saw the child go into the water.
