Grandmother Jumps with Child from Burning Apartment
A grandmother saved her 3-year-old grandson by jumping from a second story window to escape an early morning apartment fire. The fire broke out at about 2:15 this morning at Oak Valley Apartments on Harrison Street in North Highlands.
When Sacramento Metro firefighters arrived, they found flames shooting from the first and second stories. Everyone had made it out safely, including the grandmother and grandson who survived the fire and an estimated 17-foot jump. Emergency workers treated a large cut on the grandmother's leg . The grandson suffered a few scrapes and bruises but will be OK.
Four apartment units sustained about $300,000 worth of damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but arson has been ruled out.
