Mom Allegedly Kidnaps Son After Killing His Uncle

Quote
An Amber Alert was in effect Monday for a 4-year-old boy whose mother allegedly abducted him after killing his 32-year-old uncle.

The woman, Vanessa Ochoa, 22, does not have legal custody of her son, Manaen Miles.

She is suspected of killing the boy's paternal uncle around 1:25 p.m. Sunday at his home at 4020 Canyon Dell Drive in Altadena, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy Ed Hernandez.

She then fled with her son southbound on Canyon Dell toward Lincoln Avenue in a silver Mitsubishi Diamante with a temporary paper Nevada license plate.

She may be traveling with a companion, a black woman, who may be driving the car, Deputy Oscar Butao said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department issued an Amber Alert for the mother and child, who may be on their way to Henderson, Nev.

Ochoa is Hispanic, 5 feet tall and 125 pounds with long dark hair.

The boy was described as black, 3 feet tall and 50 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts.

Ochoa is believed to be armed and dangerous, Hernandez said.

The home where the shooting took place was the residence of the boy's uncle and grandparents, and his father had recently moved in, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Authorities had not yet talked to the father, according to the newspaper.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the boy and his mother was urged to call the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau at (323) 526-5541.
