Well the crooks have found a way to rob you of your gift card balance.
If you buy Gift Cards from a display rack that has various store cards you may become a victim of theft. Crooks are now jotting down the card numbers in the store and then wait a few days and call to see how much of a balance THEY have on the card. Once they find the card is "activated", and then they go online and start shopping.
You may want to purchase your card from a customer service person, where they do not have the Gift Cards viewable to the public.
Please share this with all your family and friends...

Story made KCRA.com today:

Quote
The BBB reports about five cases of this kind of fraud nationwide every day....

Consumers can look for a gift card with a scratch-off security code, like those offered at Best Buy and Lowe's. It assures that only the recipient can see the code, so Hegerty said that if it has been scratched off, don't buy it.

That is something new. I had never heard of this and will definitely inform anyone I can about that. Because to be honest that is so true. I would see them in the store and would think that how is it that they feel comfortable leaving them out  in the open. People who are deceptive and deceitful will find a way to do something illegal. This is one for the books. They say you learn something new everyday, I guess that goes for the criminal as well.

I do most of my shopping online and order my gift cards online too. Many places let me send them directly to the recipient. So, I never have to worry about this.
