NBA Suspends Artest for Seven Games
Ron Artest's no contest plea to a spousal abuse charge has drawn the Kings troubled star a seven-game suspension from the NBA, league officials announced Saturday.
Artest was suspended without pay for the first seven games of the 2007-2008 season after pleading no contest to one charge of domestic violence in May.
Artest was arrested after deputies responded to a call from Artest's wife at the couple's estate in the Placer County community of Loomis March 5. According to a Placer County sheriff's deputy's report, Artest grabbed his wife, pushed her down, then slapped her during an argument.
Artest pleaded no contest in May and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a 10-day work project. The Kings held Artest out for two games last season in the wake of the allegations.
