Sacramento, CA Discussion / National / Re: FL judge denies voting machine inspection

Nope, Don't own a TV.
And whether or not the voting machines are rigged is not the point here in this discussion, or it wasn't when the original post was put up. The basis for the post was that a judge had denied a complainant access to code in the computers that control the voting machines. No mention of the reasoning. It sounds as if there was a civil complaint. Should there be malfeasance, law enforcement should be contacted to start an investigation in accordance with law
Our laws are many times ambiguous, but I damn sure don't want people prying into my stuff because they think I might have done something wrong. That is what is the matter with The Patriot Act. If Tony Sinclair had told me of any evidence that would warrant an intrusion into the computer codes for the voting machines, I might not agree with the judge in this case, but there was no evidence that anything untoward did happen. There was NO EVIDENCE to warrant the intrusion, at least not yet. The hopeful candidate needs to dig more or shut up. And that is what I am saying. If you lose, go figure out why you lost, don't blame it on someone else

I meant that collectively. I didn't vote for him either, but I also did not do a much as I might have to insure he was not elected, therefore I must take blame for the mess we are in.
Actually I don't think the intelligence was so much doctored by the administration as it was by the military/industrial complex, who runs our world anyway. The Bush party was an easy one for them to take over, but they do the same to any Democrat power team too, witness our mess in Cuba and Vietnam with our Democrat stalwarts Kennedy and Johnson. And I am truly bi-partisan, I dislike both major parties equally immensely. I vote Green or Libertarian in almost every case. I have voted, in the past, for republicans, never, that I remember, for a Democrat. And yes, I voted for Nixon. That's life!

You are right. We do need to question government, as well as laws, and that is exactly what i am doing. I never said that no-one should question government. i don't know if I agree with the judge or not. i don't have any information.
My questioning is the insistence that something is wrong because someone lost; I assume there was a recount, that would be standard in a race that you say is that close. I don't know any particulars, but so far there has been a lot of conjecture and no real facts to the veracity of computerized voting apparatus. There would need to be evidence, (and there may be, I don't know) for a judge to order an inspection of someone's code. Sound to me that there is none, and that is why the judge ruled as he/she did.
And no I have never been in favor of instant replay, it distracts from the game immensely in my opinion. Just as a player might drop a pass, or miss a grounder, mistakes and errors are part and parcel of every game, and the officiating is the same, and, again, my opinion, that is part of the game.
i played ball many, many years ago. When I was 8 or 9 I knew that no matter how wrong he was, the umpire was always right. It's a lot like a scenario that occurs on a regular basis, where an individual does everything right, lives a fine life, all by whatever book he or she adheres to, ahs a beautiful happy family, successful business, helps out everyone he or she can, and gets hit by a falling meteor. That's life.
I responded to your post because it was the only one I found here that warranted response, and it sounded as though you might be a good person to argue with. You are, and I look forward to more.

The number of troops we have in Iraq has no bearing on what the outcome will be except in a negative way. We are in a war that we cannot win. We don't even know who or why we fight. Someone suggested to me that we just start bombing the crap out of the people there, and it would scare them into submission. What a load. Those are people that routinely strap bombs to their chests. How do you scare someone that has those traits?
I, though, can't blame this mess on Bush. He had a hand, in fact, very few people in any branch of government voted against this war, and it was very popular for quite a long time. As with most of my thoughts, the responsibility is ours and ours alone, and Bush is one of us, so I guess he's as much to blame as me, but not more. We the People put him in office

How are those criteria givens? George Bush just signed another piece of legislation into law with proviso that he doesn't have to follow the new law. Assuming a politician is not dishonest is a risky bet. And that's not the point anyway. The point is a judge made a decision, it isn't up to me or you to decide whether or not he is right or wrong. If another court gets involved then that's fine, that's what the checks and balances are about, and that's what we pay for.
To assume that a judge is crooked or not doing his/her job with the information available about this case is jumping the gun. Now if you have evidence that there is wrong-doing with intent, then it's time to raise your voice, but suspicions are leaky enticement to crusade.
She should have done her job better. I say. if you win by ten thousand points, it would be fairly obvious then that the game is rigged. My motto has always been CYA and hedge my bets, and if I were a politician, I would win or I would not run, and if I lost I would be too embarrassed to raise a stink about the officiating. Losers are losers, plain and simple.
Just my point of view. I can't stand athletes that complain about bad calls either. They are losers

Depends on the case? No mention is made of the possibility that the code is covered by intellectual copyright protections. And was there any reason to believe the programming was the cause of the election loss?
We, (people, particularly Americans) spend entirely too much time and expense beating dead horses. We second guess umpires, refs, voting officials, and anything that may make a ruling about anything.
I say if you want to play, you should know the rules and contingencies going in and allow that that results are what they are, and live with them. And I don't mean that we shouldn't strive to correct the problems in our world, just that it's an AS-IS world, so cover your ass. If she had done her job better she would have won by 400 votes, (which may not be the case, but the only failure one can control is their own).
