1  Sacramento, CA Discussion / Events / Jeffrey - two more weekends! on: June 16, 2008, 02:07:08 PM
There are two more weekends to see Jeffrey, written by Paul Rudnick and directed by Kevin Leonard!

At once funny and thought-provoking, Paul Rudnick’s Jeffrey features a randy, bed-hopping title character who has sworn off sex after one-too-many rounds with his partners about what is "safe" and what is not. Suddenly, just after he's reconciled himself to celibacy, Jeffrey's flamboyant friends introduce him to the man of his dreams, who also happens to be HIV-positive. What follows is an audacious and moving romantic comedy where unflagging humor prevails even when tragedy might be just around the corner.

3  Sacramento, CA Discussion / Events / A play with music by Jimmy Cliff George & Kurt Gregory VanDover on: March 25, 2008, 04:52:02 PM
Come experience the magic of Mississippi, the deep south…

Down a lonely stretch of road in the middle of the woods… a small town just past the turn-of-the-century; it’s inhabitants haunted by memories of days gone by and lost in time. Love, hate, greed, honor, jealousy, humiliation. The fortune-teller, the preacher, the piano teacher, the young doctor, the widow, the flapper, the captain, the outcast, the righteous… angels, devils, ghosts… and three young lovers whose lives, losses, hopes, tragedies and dreams set into motion a chain events that haunts the town’s inhabitants forever. Bigotry, friendship, prejudice, revenge… good versus evil. The cemetery, a church house, a motorcar, a medal... long hot nights, forbidden loves, family secrets, haunting melodies, rousing hymns, hell fire and damnation…welcome to Burnt Fields.

Burnt Fields… a hypnotic and tender lesson for life.

The cemetery serves as the lead character in the play and the souls that inhabit it are its supporting players. The play is set in the fictionalized small town of Burnt Fields, Mississippi; a dot on a map off an old country road located between the small towns of Fairview and Sandy Springs (9 miles NE of Fulton). Whether a town truly existed at this location is still speculation but a church and a cemetery exist there to this day, with tombstones dating back to the 1800s.

Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. through April 19
Sundays at 4:00 p.m. March 30, April 13 & April 20

4  Sacramento, CA Discussion / Events / An Alto's Lament on: February 11, 2008, 11:54:39 AM
Raylynn's Cabaret, from Musical Theatre to Jazz Standards...her farewell concert!

You may remember Raylynn as one of the multi-talented staff of Max’s Opera Café or perhaps you've caught her performing vocally in local restaurants and lounges. Raylynn has been in several local productions, some of the more memorable being the sadistic Drag Queen-like character "The Queen of Outer Space" in the fun, campy musical comedy "Carhops In Bondage" in '06' at the Lambda Players Theatre; or perhaps the psychotic dehomosexualizing Psychiatrist "Dr. Eve" in "Sordid Lives" opposite the brilliant Kevin Leonard; or the role that's most memorable to her, the repressed drag queen forced to live life as the mistreated Roadie/Husband/Back-up male Vocalist, "Yitzhak" in "Hedwig And The Angry Inch" in '06' and '07' at the Crest Theatre, also opposite Kevin Leonard.

Raylynn has thoroughly enjoyed being in Sacramento and is thankful for all the opportunities this town has brought her. She is excited to open a new chapter in her life and re-join her best friend/mentor, Robert May in Branson Missouri to further her Musical Theatre career. This is something she just can't pass up. She wants to say goodbye to all her beloved friends and family in style. She can't wait to share all her favorite songs ranging from Jazz Standards to Belty Musical Theatre packed between tons of comedy and laughter.

Please join her on February 29th and March 1st as she reunites with the Lambda Players at the Studio Theatre for one last performance in an effort to raise funds for this giant upward career jump. "Goodbye for now Sacramento, you'll always hold a special place in my heart"!

Tickets are $15 (General Seating), show starts at 8pm, doors open at 7:30, wine served in the lobby.
