1  Sacramento, CA Discussion / Arden / Arcade / Avoid the Valero @ El Camino & Mission!! on: November 12, 2008, 10:19:30 AM
I wanted to alert people about this Valero gas station on the corner of El Camino and Mission - I think this is Arden/Arcade as it's on the other side of Mission Ave. I needed gas the other day and thought of the two closest gas stations to where I was at the moment. Both were Valeros, one at that location, the other on Arden adn Eastern. I saw the price as this Valero was posted on the big sign $2.349, and I thought the other Valero was the same price. So I stopped, filled up, lookedat my receipt and saw that I was charged $2.439 per gallon! WTF!! I then looked at another smaller sign under the big one and they had both prices. $2.349 for cash or Valero card, and $2.239 for credit card, and obviously I paid w/ a credit card at the pump. What a ####ing ripoff!

Just for curiosity sake I went and checked the other Valero to see if they did the same shady pricing and NOPE! Theirs was even less! $2.319/gal! Period! No cash vs. credit underhanded pricing scheme!

Ugh, I'm pissed! I won't be going back to that one on El Camino and Mission again! Not to mention it's a dump and people hang out there from the neighboring apartment complex all the time.
2  Sacramento, CA Discussion / Carmichael / Re: Sac. Co. Animal Control - Barking Violation on: November 03, 2008, 01:15:51 PM
I did the public records act request and got a response today. I know which neighbor did it! I think I'm actually more pissed now that I know! We talked to the neighbor on the other side of us and they got a notice too!!
3  Sacramento, CA Discussion / California / Prop 8 hate mail on my door on: October 26, 2008, 10:43:43 AM
I got home from work on Friday and found a letter attached to a flier rubber banded to my door knob.

It reads" Don't Read This... ...if you think a few people should have 'rights' instead of millions of others."

Since when do you put "rights" in quotes? Only people who don't believe rights are rights!

The letter starts off "I am married with five children. I don't hate anybody." - You wouldn't need to qualify your argument if you really didn't hate people. She then plays the victim, as if she's a minority or oppressed, and states, "I am tired of everyone else having rights and mine not mattering." BS! You're trying to limit the rights of others because you're the victim here. right. She goes on to state that she is "concerned" that churches will be forced to perform same sex marriages and that we will no longer of freedom of religion. WTF??? This is just more fear tactics. And I love that she brings in stats from the Netherlands as if that has anything to do with the issue here to show that traditional marriages are more stable, which isn't true in the US. She then plays the victim again saying she will lose all these rights if Prop 8, the right eliminating proposition, passes. Oh the irony. Oh the hypocrisy. Oh the horse ####!

The postcard sized flier perpetuates one of their biggest lies - "61 percent of California voters said "Yes" to marriage as a man and a woman."  - that's 61 percent of voters, but only 30 percent of people voted on Prop 22 at all. Obviously, based on the polls for Prop 8, the majority disagree.

It's signed Denece Zavoral, 863-0417

Denece, what is your address? I want to come leave something on your door!

A diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic. It makes sense that they want to discredit psychology.

9  Sacramento, CA Discussion / Carmichael / Cottage & Mission = New Rules?!?! on: October 09, 2008, 05:11:19 PM
My whole driving/commuting life has included one simple fact. People making left turns at 4-way intersections must yield to oncoming traffic. At this specific intersection this is no longer a fact. Actually, believing such a thing could get you seriously injured (and late for work). It seems, every day, when I try to go straight through this intersection and the opposing traffic has a left turn blinker on, I get horns blaring at me because I have the audacity to be of the mindset that people making left turns are to yield to oncoming traffic. Various driving education courses and manuals must also have incorrectly printed the same rules. The authors should have checked with the drivers on my daily commute first.

So, when did the rules change, and why didn't anyone tell me?

Okay Sacramento drivers, this is how you do it: Obviously, if two cars reach the intersection at the same time, in perpendicular lanes (i.e. North & West), the one on the right goes first. That's not the issue. What people have forgotten, or people fail to learn, is that if two cars reach a 4-way controlled intersection at the same time, in opposing lanes, and one person is making a left turn, that person must yield to the one going straight. If both are turning, it's not an issue.

There is no gray area. No wiggle room. No. This is in the vehicle code & the driver handbook. And these idiots are pissing me off!!
10  Sacramento, CA Discussion / Carmichael / Re: Sac. Co. Animal Control - Barking Violation on: September 24, 2008, 06:32:37 AM
Not yet. We've been recording every time our dog has gone outside, every time he's barked (2-3 times in 4-5 days) and every time other dogs around us have barked and where the barking came from, if we can tell. As we suspected, there is much more barking coming from other dogs in the neighborhood & from our immediate neighbors.

As far as the public records act, I called and they said that I could try, but they wouldn't give me the information and I couldn't find out until it goes to court. I can only hope that if the neighbor was too much of a coward to come and talk to me like an adult, they probably wouldn't go to court & have to confront me there.
11  Sacramento, CA Discussion / Carmichael / Sac. Co. Animal Control - Barking Violation on: September 20, 2008, 10:16:27 AM
To the neighbor who complained about our dog barking when there are dogs on all sides of us & practically every house on the block who bark and are aggressive, I'd like to say the following:

Have some respect. How much would it have taken you to come over or call us and see if everything was okay, if you had the right house/dog, if there was some other way to work it out without getting Animal Control involved? Obviously too much for your busy self-absorbed life. All Animal Control could tell me is that it was one of our immediate neighbors. One has a dog outside all day and will charge the fence if you come near. The neighbor on the other side has two little yappy dogs that actually bit a dog we used to have. The trashy family behind us sounds like they beat their little dog & have kids over all the time making all sorts of noise. All of those dogs bark, charge the fence to get to our dog and wake our 1yr old son up from naps. We have never complained. Not once.

So, we get the letter because our dog goes outside a few times a day and his barking is usually provoked by one of the dogs above. I can only assume this is a mistake, or at the very worst, a personal vendetta against us. Which is too bad - what comes around goes around & you'll get yours.

I also have a bone to pick with this whole violation process. The way it was explained to me by AC is that anybody can complain w/ no proof. AC issues a violation letter. The party can complain again & AC will send someone out to investigate. If the party complains again, they're basically given carte blanche to issue a citizens arrest & you're only recourse is to go to court. So, now, we have to spend our time documenting every time our dog goes outside & when the other dogs bark.

What would you do in this situation??
12  General Discussion / Food/Recipes / Re: Recipes for Sole? on: June 19, 2008, 03:51:24 PM
I combined two recipes I found on that site and created the following one and let me tell you it was gooood. We had it with homemade couscous, mixed vegitables, and rolls.

Baked Lemon Sole with Parmesan Crust

Ingredients:
•   4 thin fillets of sole
•   ½ cup bread crumbs or more if needed
•   3 tbsp grated parmesan cheese
•   3 tbsp melted butter
•   2 tbsp olive oil
•   2 tbsp fresh finely chopped parsley
•   ½ tsp ground pepper
•   Lemon wedges

Directions:
1.   Preheat oven to 400 degrees
2.   Melt butter in 13x9 baking dish
3.   Coat sole fillets lightly in olive oil
4.   Mix bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, parsley & pepper in shallow bowl
5.   Dip sole fillets in bread crumb mixture
6.   Place fillets in baking dish on melted butter
7.   Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25min
8.   Squeeze lemon juice as desired

Serves: 2-4
13  General Discussion / Food/Recipes / Rubios Fresh(??) Mexican Grill on: June 12, 2008, 09:28:32 AM
What is it about Rubios? Their food is good, but I love my cilantro and onions. For some reason, that stuff is almost never fresh. It usually has a strong vinegar smell to it and I have to ask for a fresh batch. Sometimes the new batch is good, sometimes not. Their prices seem to keep going up to, so I'm just getting sick of going there. The one I go to (because my wife wants it) is on Marconi and Fulton. I've started going to the Quiznos next door for my food if I have to go to Rubios.
