Good tips from the link above & FightTheBite.net:
Follow the 7 Ds
DRAIN any standing water that may produce mosquitoes.
DAWN and DUSK are times to avoid. These are the times when mosquitoes are most active.
DRESS appropriately by wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors.
DEFEND yourself against mosquitoes by using an effective insect repellent, such as DEET, Picaridin or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. Make sure you follow all label directions!
DOOR and window screens should be in good working condition. This will prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.
DISTRICT personnel are available to address any mosquito problem you may be experiencing by calling 1-800-429-1022.

Try Giovanni's (I think) at Loehmann's Plaza - Fair Oaks and Fulton. They have a lunch special that's a pretty good deal, but the pizza is very greasy IMO

Sacramento, CA Discussion / Carmichael / Recycling?
|
on: June 21, 2007, 04:37:01 PM
|
Does anyone else here take cans and plastic bottles to recycling centers? If so, where? And do they require you to remove the caps from the plastic bottles? The closest place to our house does, but I've been told that others do not. Would I lose $$ by not including those caps? Sorry if these are weird questions. I've been recycling through the county, but wouldn't mind having a little mad money from cans & plastic

obviously, I hate it when people leave their garbage cans out! Here's something that got on my nerves today. I was searching Google for a product and most of the results were for eBay or price comparison sites. What made it worse is that none of those sites, including eBay, had the product!

Sacramento, CA Discussion / Sacramento Discussion / new garbage can trend?
|
on: June 19, 2007, 01:29:33 PM
|
I've been noticing more and more around Sacramento, not just Carmichael, that people aren't putting their garbage cans in their back or side yards. I've driven past many many houses where the cans are either lined up in front of the garage door, off to the side of the drive way, and the worst, left out in the street for several days after pick up. Are those people really that lazy, busy, or inept? Sure, maybe I've been out of town a day after pick up, so they stayed in the street a little longer than normal. But have some pride people! Help keep your houses and neighborhoods looking nice. Have some consideration for your neighbors and your property values! /rant

Sacramento, CA Discussion / Carmichael / Turn lane at Arden and Mission
|
on: May 31, 2007, 01:13:27 PM
|
Has anyone else seen the bull crap the county has pulled on Arden Way at Mission? It's no longer a normal suicide lane. Now it has two regular turn lanes with white lines, but because of the way Mission doesn't go straight across Arden, the turn lanes are backwards. Now, stupid drivers are blocking a lane on Arden Way because they're afraid of blocking the other turn lane. I wish I could explain this better, but it's just so bass ackwards it's ridiculous!

I hate the high gas prices as much as the next guy, but if it gets more people off the road, gets more people to buy fuel efficient cars, gets people to develop better alternative fuels, and save more natural resources, then it's not an entirely bad thing. What I don't see as being right are the huge profits! I saw an interview with one oil exec who said that the govt. should use the reserves. What an a$$hole! If we use it, there won't be a reserve you cheap SOB! How about you give up some of the billions of dollars you lined your pockets with!
