Sacramento, CA Discussion / National / Higher voter turnout
|
on: November 08, 2006, 08:46:33 AM
|
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15621554/"Voter turnout was more than 40 percent this year, slightly higher than in the last midterm election, according to the nonpartisan Center for the Study of the American Electorate at American University. It also was a big turnout success for Democrats. They drew more voters than Republicans for the first time in a midterm election since 1990, Gans said Wednesday."

Sacramento, CA Discussion / National / Inaccurate Voting (an understatement)
|
on: November 06, 2006, 04:41:35 PM

"Friday night, KFDM reported about people who had cast straight Democratic ticket ballots, but the touch-screen machines indicated they had voted a straight Republican ticket. " "Saturday, KFDM spoke to another voter who says it's not just happening with straight ticket voting, he says it's happening on individual races as well, Jerry Stopher told us when he voted for a Democrat, the Republican's name was highlighted. Sacramento, CA Discussion / California / Shady GOP Politics
|

Warning! The following mailers were sent to votors & were created to look like they were being sent from the Democratic Party. In fact, they were not. While they do suggest voting for some democrats, it endorses Republicans Bill Lungren & Roger Niello. Below is an official response from Bill Durston's office. From: Durston for Congress <munged-email-addy> Sent: Sun 11/5/2006 11:33 AM To: Me Cc: Subject: "Democratic" mailer endorsing Lungren
Many voters in the 3rd Congressional District recently received a mailer from “Democratic Voters Choice” that endorses democrats for all the major state offices, but that lists Dan Lungren for U.S. Congress. (The mailer also endorses Republican Roger Niello rather than Democrat Brandon Bell for State Assembly.) There is a Burbank address listed on the flyer for “Democratic Voters Choice,” but no phone number and no website.
Please be advised that no official Democratic organization endorses Dan Lungren for Congress. We will be bringing this mailer to the attention the State and National Democratic Party and all of our media contacts, and we will be contacting the Lungren campaign and the Federal Elections Commission as well to determine what link, if any, exists between the Lungren campaign and the mailer.
Please help us spread the word about this misleading mailer, and please let all your own contacts know that the State Democratic Party and all the official Democratic clubs and committees in the Third Congressional District endorse Bill Durston for Congress.
Authorized and paid for by Durston for Congress. Do Not Be Fooled!

Sacramento, CA Discussion / California / Prop 87 raising gas prices? not really...
|
on: November 01, 2006, 09:07:05 AM
|
The campaign contends the $4 billion tax Proposition 87 proposes over a 10-year period would lead to higher gas prices.
But the tax would be imposed on oil producers -- not consumers -- for oil produced in California.
The initiative also specifically prohibits oil companies from passing the cost along to consumers in higher prices, although the legislative analyst has said enforcement would be difficult.
But Proposition 87's goal is to reduce demand. It seeks to cut California's petroleum usage by 25 percent by spending the $4 billion in new tax revenues on developing alternative energy. http://www.sacbee.com/390/story/35565.html

Sacramento, CA Discussion / California / Doolittle ad misleading
|
on: November 01, 2006, 09:03:05 AM
|
Doolittle attacks Brown on immigration, ACLU, anti-war - typical fear mongering... The ad's claim that Brown supports immigration amnesty is misleading, because he would not automatically grant legal status to those already in the country.
The Brown campaign says Brown supports legislation sponsored by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that would require immigrants in the country illegally now to apply for citizenship, but after paying a $2,000 fine and turning themselves in to law enforcement agencies.
While Brown is a member of the ACLU, the ad selects issues that it knows would inflame conservative voters.
The ACLU's mission is protection of constitutional rights, and many conservative viewpoints have been aided by the organization. http://www.sacbee.com/390/story/35392.html
