I called the Bee's public editor a couple of days ago to express my view that the database in its current form (searchable only by name, not job title) communicates no useful information to voters and demeans employees of the State of California.  Our short conversation gave me the impression that the newsroom is very proud of its actions.  They think they've done something brave.  Speaking truth to power, and all that.
