Man Killed in Rio Linda House Fire
Sacramento Metro Fire investigators said smoke inhalation appears to be what killed a man early Sunday following a kitchen fire in his Rio Linda home.
Fire crews arrived at the home on the 7300 block of Silver New Way in Rio Linda just after 5 a.m. to find smoke coming from the attic vents in the single-story house, Sacramento Metro Fire Capt. Jeff Lynch said.
Inside the house, firefighters found a kitchen fire that appeared to have started from unattended food left on the stove, Lynch said.
The 27-year-old victim was found dead in one of the home's bedrooms. Lynch said
Coroners investigators will examine the man to confirm whether smoke inhalation caused his death.
Lynch said a smoke detector with missing batteries was located just outside the man's bedroom.
