Gas Leak Capped In Rocklin Neighborhood

Quote
A natural gas leak in a Rocklin neighborhood led to temporary evacuations for dozens of people Monday morning, police said.

The problem, which was reported at about 9:15 a.m. in the area of Independence Place and Aitken Dairy Road, was resolved by Pacific Gas and Electric workers by about 10:30 a.m.

Gas could be heard hissing from a ruptured line inside of an isolated gas transfer facility. As a safety precaution, Rocklin police told Union Pacific to temporarily shut down train traffic on the main east-west line that passes nearby.

It's good to see that this problem did not end up much worse with an explosion.  But, it should serve as a lesson to be on the lookout for this kind of thing.  I've never had this happen anywhere near where I live, but if I did notice a smell I'd know what to do and who to call ASAP.  I've heard horror stories of people who smell a gas leak in their own home and instead of getting out and calling for help they try to find the source and instead all they find is themselves wrapped up in a ball of fire.
