Roseville Activates Aquifer Facility
The city of Roseville activated its Aquifer Storage and Recovery facility Monday morning.
The well will extract and deliver stored drinking water to customers in times of need.
City officials said the facility in Leonard "Duke" Davis Park takes in surface water when it is in good supply, treats it, and injects it into an underground aquifer to be saved for dry days.
"This is like a savings account. This is a water savings account and we are preparing Roseville for the next drought, which we certainly hope doesn't happen," Roseville Mayor Jim Gray said.
City and state leaders said the ASR facility will mean less dependence on the American River during a drought, which will leave more water in place to cool the river and keep wildlife alive.
