California Highway Patrol officers had to round up loose horses along foggy Auburn Boulevard early Tuesday, but one of the animals was killed by a truck before it could be captured.

Officers were called to a stretch of Auburn Boulevard near Interstate 80 at about 2:30 a.m. after receiving a report of five horses on the loose.

CHP officers worked fast to keep the animals from getting onto nearby I-80.
