Heat Wave To Peak Today

Quote
The hottest temperatures of the week were expected to contribute Wednesday to the ongoing miserable, smoky heat wave gripping the Central Valley.

Residents were urged once again to stay inside as much as possible to avoid breathing air clogged with a soupy mix of ozone and smoke from wildfires burning around the state.

Sacramento, Stockton and Fairfield were expected to hit a blazing 108 degrees, while the forecast called for 110 degrees in Modesto.

Air quality was forecast to be unhealthy in Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado and San Joaquin counties. Air was set to be unhealthy for sensitive groups -- including those with asthma -- in Yolo and Solano counties.

On Tuesday, air quality was at its worst from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A repeat was anticpated on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, officials who oversee the state's power grid issued a Flex Alert, which calls for voluntary electricity conservation during peak heat from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Residents were asked by the Folsom-based California Independent System Operator to set thermostats at 78 degrees or higher and to avoid using large appliances.

Today I passed down an open air hallway w/ skylights & there were shafts of light beaming down through the smoke... it's just disgusting out Sad

When I picked up my son from day care, I was told that one of the parents called from around Folsom on Hwy 50 & said that they could barely see the exit or the other side of the hwy it was so bad!
