Man Dies After Swimming Accident on American River

Quote
A man who was injured in a swimming accident Sunday in the chilly water of the American River near the San Juan Rapids has died, according to the coroner's office.

Edmund Simpao Covas, 26, was rafting on the river with six other people when the group pulled to the north shore near the El Manto access, Sacramento Metro Fire Capt. Jeff Lynch said. Covas and a friend went back in the water to swim, but Covas didn't return to shore. The man was spotted under the surface several minutes later and pulled from the river as friends tried to resuscitate him.

Covas was rushed to Mercy San Juan Medical Center in critical condition and died just after 5 p.m.

When people do not head the warnings of those who are more experienced then things like this happen. I hope a lesson can be learned not only by those who were with him, but by those people who read this article.

There are reasons why people warn you not to do certain things, such as in this case.
