Today I received a piece of mail that looked like it came from Sacramento County. Once I opened it, I found that it was an advertisement from a mortgage company. It was one of those, like a check, where you tear off the three edges and unfold. In the return address spot was typed, "County of Sacramento" ...I'm a little annoyed by this and left wondering how legal it is and whether or not the county can do anything about it. I realize that it's part of home ownership that all the rats come out at the smell of money, so it's to be expected, but I think this is especially low and unethical.

Here's what I'm talking about:

Note that they even cite a US code for obstruction of mail...

I typically return any included postage-paid envelopes, stuffed with the shredded remains of the original letter, including the envelope it came in. Let 'em pay the postage. Too bad the post office banned affixing those letters to a box of, say, bricks, and making the junk-mail company pay the postage for that.

I used to send the envelopes back, but it obviously doesn't affect them... though sand would probably do something Wink

Anyhow, I've contacted the County to see what they have to say about this.

No other return address on it? Not on the back?
