New Law Would Ban Smoking In City Parks

Quote
Smokers take a hike. Soon, you may have to put your butts out at Sacramento parks. Tonight, the city will vote, and a smoking ban could be in place within a month.

Smokers who light up in parks will be breaking the law. If they're caught, they could face a $250 dollar fine. City council members will vote on become just the 12th city in the state to ban smoking in public parks.

I'd say this sounds like a ploy to generate revenue for the city, but they're going to dump $25k into this?? Now it sounds more like wasteful spending. How is smoking in a park different than smoking on a sidewalk? Are people just going to step off the grass, onto the sidewalk, and light up?

It seems like a way for the city to shove the homeless out of the parks (since a lot of the folks on the street smoke.)

When you have an area that is catering to a variety of people, it is always best to make sure that you are doing your best. there could be a number of reasons why this needed to happen. I am sure that they were finding butts everywhere but where they were suppose to be. Some people are just dirty and do not care.
