Hi there...my wife and I are possibly moving to Sacramento for my job in the coming months.  We are moving from san antonio, tx.

My wife is originally from Vallejo but moved away when she was very young.  But still has lots of family in the bay area and surrounding.

My question is...what is a nice, safe yet accessible area to live in.  I will be working in Sacramento but dont want to live in the city.   I don't mind commuting 20-30 minutes tops.

We are looking to rent a 2 bedroom apartment or townhouse but possibly renting a home.

Thanks in advance!

BUMP...any takers?  Or can someone point me to the correct forum to post in if this is not the appropriate one?

There are some other threads here that can help answer your questions. There are a lot of cities/towns that make up the greater Sacramento area. The terms "nice" and "safe" are subjective and to list all of the areas that apply is not something I can answer quickly or easily. I also don't know what price range you're looking for. Also, there are so many new developments that I wouldn't know where to begin. If you're looking for an apartment that's w/in a half hour, maybe try East Roseville near I-80 & Hwy 70. Of course, that half hour also depends on how you drive Wink

Thanks!!  Yea, I've been searching on here alot...there are many contradictory responses of whats "nice" on these threads...I guess the only way to know is if I actually drove around.  Unfortunetly I'm not anywhere near to where I can do that.

Thanks.

Well it's really subjective as to what's nice and what's not. Obviously some people hate the suburbs, and some people may be more affluent than others.

If you're looking for reviews of apartments, you can always try a site like ApartmentRatings.com. If you have questions about a specific area, you can ask in the corresponding forum here.

This may be a bit late, but Davis (~25minutes from Sacramento) is pretty nice as in quiet and quaint especially during the summer months when there are no undergrads around but even when they are there.  And it's very safe - there's alot of police presence and an ongoing joke that they'll pull over people on bikes for not completely stopping at stop signs because there's nothing else for them to do.  Some of the worse crimes are bicycle theft and um.... um... yeah. Alot of medical professionals and professors working at the UC Davis medical center in Sacramento actually live in Davis. Worth checking out.
