Sacramento has seen record numbers of home foreclosures this year, with more than 5,000 in the first three months of 2008.

That totals more than 15,000 foreclosures in the capital region since the start of last year, according to a property research firm.

The number of foreclosures statewide is 47,000, which is triple the number during the 1996 real estate downturn.
