Jonathan Ndambouki of Kenya won the California International Marathon Sunday in an exciting sprint to the finish against second-place finisher Kassohad Kabiso.

Alina Gherasim of Romania, who was the lead woman from start to finish, won in the women's category. Elena Orlova of Russia came in second.

More than 5,000 runners competed in the 24th annual event, which followed a 26.2-mile course that began in Folsom and ended near the Capitol in downtown Sacramento.
