Sacramento Tunes Up For Jazz Jubilee
The 34th Annual Sacramento Jazz Jubilee kicks off at 11:45 a.m. Friday with a parade in Old Sacramento.
Before the last note is sounded, more than 100 bands will have performed at over 30 venues at five locations around the Sacramento area. This year’s headliner is The Rebirth Jazz Band.
The majority of the venues for the Jazz Jubilee are in and around Old Sacramento. There are also venues at the Sacramento Convention Center, in West Sacramento, and at the Hyatt and Sheraton Hotels. A ticket for all events over the four-day event costs $100. Single day tickets are also available. There are also four youth sites in the Old Sacramento area where there is no admission charge.
This year’s Jazz Jubilee features 12 different types of Jazz including Traditional Jazz, Western Swing, Blues, Ragtime, Latin and Swing. The music starts at 1 p.m. Friday, and will run from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and conclude at 4 p.m. Monday.
The first Jazz Jubilee was put on by the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society in 1974 and has grown into an internationally known festival.
