It's called "gate jumping," and it's one of the most dangerous driving maneuvers on Sacramento streets – where impatient motorists dodge around rail crossing safety gates to beat a coming train.

A makeshift memorial including flowers and toys sits at the rail crossing at 26th Avenue near 24th Street on Monday. Three people, including a toddler, were killed when their SUV was hit by a light-rail train at the crossing on Saturday.

Sacramento light-rail crash devastates family
Domonick Williams grew worried when his parents were late dropping off his 22-month-old son. When he saw a TV news report Saturday evening about a deadly crash between a vehicle and a light-rail train, it didn't even cross his mind that his family could be involved.

Brown rejects high-speed rail cost estimate of $100 billion

Light-rail track extension to close stations, corner
Four light-rail stations and a downtown intersection are scheduled to be closed until early Sunday for track extension construction.
A project to extend the city's light-rail line 1.1 miles, to Seventh Street and Richards Boulevard in the River District, will shut down four Gold Line stations and an intersection in the area for construction until early Sunday.
