A teenage girl died Friday in a fast-moving house fire in south Sacramento, fire officials said.

Authorities said the blaze broke out shortly before noon at a residence at 4172 Sweetwater Ave., located near the intersection of Fruitridge Road and 42nd Street.

Officials said a mother and two daughters were home at the time of the fire.

The mother and one daughter managed to escape, but a 17-year-old girl who family members said had Down syndrome died in the fire.

The mother and daughter who escaped were treated for cuts, burns and smoke inhalation.

Officials did not release the name of the girl who died.

Firefighters said the blaze appeared to start near the back of the house, but the cause was under investigation.
