Water Main Break Floods Sac Neighborhood
Residents in Sacramento's Fruitridge area weren't happy about a delayed response by a private water company following a water main break.
Water poured through yards and garages on Lantana Avenue and 48th Avenue following the break around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
Priscilla Magano said she tried calling the Fruitridge Vista Water Company when she saw water gushing from a hole in her backyard. After getting no response, Magano called 911.
Emergency responders also had trouble reaching the water company, according to Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Jim Doucette.
Neighbors said the water kept flowing for nearly three hours.
The Fruitridge Vista Water Company issued a statement saying it is reviewing the cause of the ruptured main as well as the delay in the answering service notifying the company about the break.
The company said the break happened in a neighborhood where it is adding new pipes, wells and other improvements ordered by the state and local governments.
The company said the break affected about three dozen of its 5,000 customers.
